Schuchter Patrick

After studying philosophy in Innsbruck and Paris, Patrick Schuchter, born in 1979, completed his three-year-education as a  nurse. After 5 years of practice in the University Hospitals of Innsbruck and Vienna he returned to research and completed a Master of Public Health as well as a doctorate in philosophy. He was involved in several research projects (key research, lead) in the fields of organisational ethics, elderly care, caring communites (public health end-of-life care). The project under his guidance “Last questions in Esslingen. Developing a caring culture at the end of life through Care Dialogues and philosophical Practice” has been awarded with the Paul-Lechler-Prize (Awardees: P. Schuchter, A.Heller, S. Kränzle). In the projects “Caring Community in living and dying” and “Dying Worlds” he developed a methodology of dispositive analysis. In addition to his position at the University of Graz, he is deputy head for Palliative Care of the Kardinal-König-Haus (an institution of further education in Vienna). He was guest researcher at the Center of Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities, School of Political Studies, University of Ottawa, Canada. A practical philosophy of care], transcript 2016; „Sorgekunst. Mutbüchlein für das Lebensende“ [The art of caring. Booklet of encouragement for the end of life], hospiz verlag 2017, gemeinsam mit Andreas Heller. He is a husband and father of two children, and board member of a parents-led child group.
