Curriculum Vitae

After studying philosophy in Innsbruck and Paris, Patrick Schuchter, born in 1979, completed his three-year-education as a  nurse. After 5 years of practice in the University Hospitals of Innsbruck and Vienna he returned to research and completed a Master of Public Health as well as a doctorate in philosophy. He was involved in several research projects (key research, lead) in the fields of organisational ethics, elderly care, caring communites (public health end-of-life care). The project under his guidance “Last questions in Esslingen. Developing a caring culture at the end of life through Care Dialogues and philosophical Practice” has been awarded with the Paul-Lechler-Prize (Awardees: P. Schuchter, A.Heller, S. Kränzle). In the projects “Caring Community in living and dying” and “Dying Worlds” he developed a methodology of dispositive analysis. In addition to his position at the University of Graz, he is deputy head for Palliative Care of the Kardinal-König-Haus (an institution of further education in Vienna). He was guest researcher at the Center of Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities, School of Political Studies, University of Ottawa, Canada. Publications: „Sich einen Begriff vom Leiden anderer machen. Eine Praktische Philosophie der Sorge“ [Getting an idea oft he suffering of others. A practical philosophy of care], transcript 2016; „Sorgekunst. Mutbüchlein für das Lebensende“ [The art of caring. Booklet of encouragement for the end of life], hospiz verlag 2017, gemeinsam mit Andreas Heller. He is a husband and father of two children, and board member of a parents-led child group.
