I blend research techniques from Social, Information, and Computer Science to study scholarly work practices with a goal of ensuring long-term value of research data. The domain of aging is a particularly interesting domain for my research as it brings togethers researchers, policy-makers, corporate, and not-for-profit entities around qualitative, quantitative, and especially, longitudinal data.

Lebenslauf

Unmil holds a PhD in Computer Science from Texas A&M University, USA (2011), held a tenure-track appointment in Information Studies (The University of Texas at Austin, USA) and is currently a Scientist at the Institute Center for Information Modeling at the University of Graz.

He conducts research at the intersection of research data and scholarly practices. Data is created and shaped by forces such as the technology standards adopted for its representation, interfaces employed for its generation, as well as the work practices, foci, the political and social environment of its creators. Studying this complex environment from a data-centric perspective enables him to assess the quality and potential benefits of data for its long and short-term utility, preservation, communication, as well as reuse. Adopting a broad, interdisciplinary research agenda, he has collaborated and published with scholars in areas such as basic sciences, educational technology, mobile health, geosciences, astrodynamics, and power systems engineering.
